about

WELCOME!

We’re so glad that you found GirlswithNerve, a place where teens with epilepsy can find information about sexual health, stories from other teens with epilepsy, suggestions for talking with doctors about the tough stuff, and more.

WHY CREATE THIS WEBSITE?

We made this website after talking with teens with epilepsy like you all across the country. Everything on this website is based on what real teens with epilepsy said they wanted to know about sexual health. Research for the development of this site was funded by a grant from the Society of Family Planning Research Fund.

WHO CREATED THIS AMAZING WEBSITE?

The content of this website was put together by a fantastic group of teens and young adults with epilepsy, as well as staff at Ibis Reproductive Health. The team brought a range of experiences with epilepsy, sexual and reproductive health research, public health, communications, and direct clinical experience providing women’s health care services. Amanda Dennis led the way with the help of Ruth Manski, Megan Smith, Ella Douglas-Durham, Katie Johnston, and others.

A special shout out goes to Misty Dennis. She is the artist who made this website functional and enjoyable to look at. You can find her here: www.mistydennis.me.

WHY IS THE WEBSITE CALLED GIRLSwithNERVE?

We chose this name because epilepsy is a disorder of the nervous system. We also wanted to take an affirmative and empowering approach to sexual and reproductive health. We asked teens what they thought about the website name. Here is what one teen had to say:

  • I THINK IT’S A GOOD NAME. GIRLS FIGHTING EPILEPSY ARE BRAVE. IT ALSO TAKES NERVE TO OPEN UP AND TALK ABOUT SEX AND REPRODUCTION.

We couldn’t agree more!
